Connecticut Sheep Breeders Association

Webmaster - smurray@ctsheep.com

OUR MISSION SINCE 1893

It's 2023 and we're 130 years old!

The original Constitution and By-Laws written in May of 1893 said, “The purpose of the Association shall be to promote and encourage the keeping of sheep upon the farms of Connecticut, to improve breeds of sheep, and to aid in securing legislation favorable to the sheep industry and agriculture.” We continue to strive to carry on their mission by offering mentoring for new shepherds, supporting youth interested in sheep, providing educational workshops at various times for youth and adults, offering the Connecticut Blanket to aid members in using their wool to obtain a value added product from their farm and putting on the Connecticut Sheep, Wool & Fiber Festival on the last Saturday in April every year.

blanket update & 2023 wool collection

The wool collected in February is still at Chargeurs waiting to be scoured (grrrrrrr) and it is time to collect the 2023 clip. Wool collection will be in the Lower Swine Barn at UConn Storrs Campus (same place as February) on

SUNDAY, JUNE 11th

9 am to 2 pm

Just like last time we need to be picked up and out of there by 3 so ABSOLUTELY no late comers.

Yes, it's kind of short notice but we waited to hear from UConn that their wool was ready to go plus we were hoping to find a mill that could make more than Long Throws and smaller. If there is any hope of getting blankets back in time for the holidays it needs to go soon.

Remember wool must be pre-skirted. We spent far too much time approving fleeces in February.

Email to smurray@ctsheep.com with estimated pounds of wool dark & white.

2023 CT SHEEP, WOOL & FIBER FESTIVAL

The 2023 Festival was a miserable rainy day but we still had a great crowd and our vendors were pleased and we're hoping for better weather for 2024.

Vendor spaces for 2023 were full and if you want to try to be part of 2024 use the email below.

We can really use more volunteers at this venue so please email csbafestivalvendors@gmail.com if you can help

See you April 27, 2024

2022 RANDALL M. KNIGHT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Connecticut Sheep Breeders Association, Inc. will again be awarding the scholarship in memory of Randall M. Knight. As the shepherd of the UConn Flock Randy was always available to answer questions about sheep, served as President and Vice President of the Association and served on many committees.

2023 FESTIVAL YOUTH SHEEP program

Sara Tomis, our new Director for New London County, created an educational program for youth from grades 6 - 12 that was held at the 2023 CT Sheep, Wool & Fiber Festival. It was a great success and she is planning another one for 2024! The age grouping will change so stay tuned!
